Call me cheezy, I don't care!

About a month and a half ago I was procrastinating on studying for exams (which ended up being a really bad plan but shhh) and I "somehow" ended up at a website that I had seen in magazines many times and had visited when I was on the garter search. I decided to spend a "few" minutes looking around, oohing and ahhing at all of the silly things that were on there.

Some of the more silly things:

Anyway, I had a lot of fun looking around and wondering what kind of people actually bought this stuff. Then I came across a couple items that peaked my interest:

  • Custom Short Sleeved Hoodie - now the reason I wanted this was because I needed something I could wear the morning of the wedding that zipped so that it wouldn't ruin my hair. Also I like the short sleeves because, July 16 - it's not going to be hoodie weather!
  • "bride" Tank and Pants - I love things that match and I love that I get to wear something that says bride. Judge me if you must. Oh, and I loved that I could customize it in my wedding colours!

I set up my order and it was fairly pricey and when I asked Ian if he was okay with me ordering them (joint finances and all), he said, "will you wear them?" And I replied by asking him, "when have you ever known me not to wear sweat pants?" He thought about it and then said I could order them. He's so wonderful!

So I put the order in and immediately wrote the approximate delivery date in my agenda. I was pleasantly surprised when the arrived early and I put them on immediately! They are so comfy and will be perfect for the day of the wedding (well the zippy and the pants - the tank not so much).

Some fine looking men

Ian and I have been trying to find time to choose his tux for what feels like months now. But every weekend was filled with one commitment or another. Finally a little over a week ago we found a couple of hours to get this done.

I had done some preliminary looking and decided that we would try Black and Lee first. I had heard some good reviews and had spotted a couple looks that I really liked at a bridal show not that long ago. I knew what I wanted but Ian was the person who had to wear the thing so I thought it would be best to have him weigh in, at least a little.

I'd had an early morning exam that day and a ball practice immediately after so when I got home from those we took off towards the store. We arrived at what seems to be the worst possible time because the store was packed with people. A group of what I assumed to be groomsmen were getting fitted and there were at least 2 couples ahead of us to be served and only two people working. I have to say that these two people were doing a very good job of juggling everything but there was still a lot of standing around.

We looked at all the displayed tuxes and very quickly Ian came to the same conclusion I had (yay!) and all that was left was to choose a vest color and get him sized. I found the two vests that I wanted but I was still undecided if I wanted Ian in the red vest and his men in black or if I wanted Ian in black and his men in red. This is a decision I have been back and forth on many times in the past few months.

Finally it was Ian's turn to get in the change room to figure out what sizes he would need. I showed him the two vests that I liked and asked him which he wanted to wear. He said the red and I thought that was it. Then the sizer vests they had were black and he looked so good with the black jacket and the black vest. I asked him if he wouldn't mind wearing the black and being the wonderful man he is, he agreed without much fuss. Actually there was no fuss. It kinda went like this:

Me: "I've changed my mind, can you wear the black vest?"
Ian: "Sure, whatever"
Me: "Are you sure!?"
Ian: "Yes, I really don't care that much"
Me: "Yay!"

The last thing on the checklist was to sort out the rest of the bridal party and family tuxes. Since we are in Victoria and the rest of our bridal party and family are not we had to tell the lovely girl where everyone was getting fitted. I felt bad for the poor girl, she was running out of room on the form for all the notes we had. This part kind of when like this:

Me: "B is getting fitted in Vancouver, M, M, FoB, FoG are getting fitted in Surrey, D is getting fitted in Port Alberni...."
Her: "Hang on, sorry I'm running out of room to write all this down!"
Me: "Oh and we need to pick all of them up in Surrey"
Her: *after whiting out a lot of stuff "I think I need to re write this order"

All in all it was a successful day and I'm very pleased with result.
(Translation: I got what I wanted)

Here is the tux that Ian will be wearing when we get married:

well kind of, there will be no green involved.

Who doesn't like presents?

When Ian and I first got engaged we were at odds about the wedding gift's to each other, thing. I told him that it was silly and we didn't need to spend the extra money and he wanted a present. Don't get me wrong, I love presents but I thought we are spending all this money on the wedding for us, the honeymoon for us and it's not like there is going to be a shortage of presents, but Ian was sticking to his guns and was pushing for wedding presents.

Something you need to know about Ian though is that buying him presents is never a simple prospect, he has very specific taste (by specific I mean expensive) and has a hard time pretending to like something that he doesn't. Something I have witnessed (and been on the receiving end of) many times. It has taken 7 years but I have finally figured out present buying for Ian, but I didn't want to put on MORE money on the wedding when we buy each other presents for so many other occasions.

*I am fully aware I sound like a bah-hum-bug cow, bare with me it's gets better I promise

Months pass and Ian does not let up on the wedding present issue and finally it comes to pass why. He has found a briefcase that he has fallen in love with - I think he actually loves this briefcase more than me. The problem is we can not afford for him to get it because we are broke and it is going to cost, well lets just say it was more than we could pay. Finally I understood why Ian was so set on the present thing. He was hoping to get this briefcase for a wedding present. This still didn't change anything because we still couldn't afford to pay for it.

Knowing why Ian was so set on the wedding present issue I started to think about ways that I could make it happen. I went through our rather pathetic budget about 15 million times but came up short every time. I found this particularly frustrating because every time I walked in to Ian's office he was looking at pictures, videos or anything related to these bags. It was starting to make me rather sad.

Finally I conceded and decided that Visa was a girls best friend and that I'd just add it to the mounting debt. That was all well and good until Ian decided he was going to work a job on the mainland in order to earn the money for the bag. DOH, that darn determined nature of his was getting in the way!
It's actually one of the things I love about him the most but shhhh

So it came down to a conversation in the kitchen in which I begged him one last time to wait until after the wedding and he said he couldn't. So I told him my little secret.

He was like a kid on Christmas morning. He even posted that I was the "Best Wife to be Ever" on facebook. It made me feel pretty good and it was later determined that this worked better than trying to give presents the day of because it's going to be so hectic anyway.

Happy Wedding Honey! I Love You!

He looks really mad here - trust me he wasn't mad :)

Cake Update

It looks like I won't have to go with my backup plan of wedding flan
(hee hee I really like that word, flan - it's so entertaining!)

Thanks to everyone who has messaged me with ideas and tips and people that might be able to help me out. It's nice to know that people care!

I have found a person (Wendy) to make my cake: She seems really flexible and her design work is brilliant, I am going to meet with her after I finish my finals so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Thanks again everyone!!!
